Week 4 CAFFL Report

Conference play was officially under way on Sunday as we had two very intriguing matchups, both featured heavy favorites one game went the way the CAFFL Sportsbook predicted and the other not so much.

The opening matchup featured the Vipers who are the number one team in the South Conference taking on the Admirals who are just trying to get their season back on track after winning their first game and then going on a 2 game losing streak after. The Admirals were without multiple guys so Jackson Davis who had a Bye Week with the Mustangs stepped up to the plate and competed at wide receiver and quarterback. Davis didn't have the start that he wanted to as a deep ball went off of Payton Hayes hands and ended up being an interception by Ramar Easter. Adrian Morris and the Vipers offense would not take long as Morris would connect with Jesse Norwood and it was Vipers 6-0 quickly, but give the Admirals credit they would march straight down the field and would take the lead 8-6. The Vipers would get creative and let Remar Easter throw a halfback pass to a wide open Jesse Norwood and on two plays the Vipers would have 14 points. The Admirals would have some bad luck as in a Superbowl 34 moment Payton Hayes would be called inches short of the endzone and the Vipers would score again on another touchdown pass by Easter who just continued to bolster his MVP campaign. The Admirals saw themselves facing a 12 point deficit until Kyle Johler caught a short pass and separated himself from multiple Viper defenders to cut the deficit to 5. Vipers would have their third one play touchdown drive of the game as Morris connected with his go to guy Easter and it would be 26 to 15 at halftime. Vipers would pick up right where they left off in the second half scoring quick and going up 32-15. The Admirals were keeping up scoring again on a Davis pass to Hayes. Perhaps the only real mistake by the Vipers was committed by Dalton Norwood who had a Shaqtin A Fool moment when he decided to pass even when he was inches away from scoring on a rushing touchdown. That play would not matter as the Vipers would get it across the goal line on the very next play to go up 38-21. Morris and Easter connected again to go up 24 points, the Admirals would have an injured player so they would call upon the Elite's John Buss to step in for a couple of series. The Admirals would get it close but they could not break through. The Vipers would add on two more touchdowns including a pick six from the potential Defensive Player of the Year Jesse Norwood, the final score 60-21. The Admirals again got off to a good start but like they have done in this 3 game losing streak they hit a wall and they just can't catch up.

The final game on Sunday featured the undefeated Elite and the very defeated Sentinels, well at least that is what it seemed. Entering the game as a 27 and a half point underdog the Sentinels didn't seem to have much hope especially after going down 6-0 quickly when Nash Teague completed a pass to John Buss. The Elite would have a bust in coverage and Arin Natzke found a wide open Austin Gilbert to even the game at 6 all. Poor flag grabbing something that has hampered the Sentinels all season long came back to get them again as Nash Teague found Easton Thomas who looked to be dead to rights broke free of two Sentinels and scored to put the Elite back on top. In quite the turn of events the Sentinels would score again on their first play of the drive Jared Williams similar to Easton Thomas would escape multiple would be tacklers to score it. With the Elite down 13-12 Nash would elude the Sentinels pressure and launch a pass to the endzone where his brother Brack would win the jump ball battle, 18-13 Elite with the lead. The Sentinels on their drive would do something they hadn't done all year score on three straight possessions as Scott Kemp found Jared WIlliams who got up high to make the touchdown catch, Sentinels go back on top by one. Noah Theis stepped  in at kicker and pinned the Elite at the one, but it wouldn't matter as the Teague brothers would connect on one of the best passes we have seen this year in the CAFFL. Going into the second half the Flag Football world was stunned as the Sentinels saw themselves just down by 7 points. Natzke would miss Kemp on a wheel route and the Sentinels would turn it over the next play for the first time in the game. The Elite would make the Sentinels pay as Teague found Thomas for his second touchdown reception, and after starting out hot Natzke would begin to start having accuracy issues he would again miss Scott Kemp and Sentinels would turn it over on downs for the second straight series. The Elite would finally start to get some separation from the Sentinels as they would score again to go up 38-19. Natzke would come back down to Earth throwing an interception but stop the presses the Sentinels get a stop against the Sentinels, yes, the Sentinels finally force a turnover on downs. The Sentinels score on the next and final play of the game as Williams caught his third touchdown of the game, the Elite would take the win 38-25.

In Week 5 we will get the game of the year as the undefeated Elite face off against the defending champion Mustangs and the Bandits will meet the Vipers. The Admirals and the Sentinels each get the week off.
