Week 2 Report

Reality hit some teams in Week 2 right in the face, and while there wasn't as many surprises on Sunday it was still an action packed day for the CAFFL. In the opening game the Bandits squared off against the Sentinels two teams who were desperately searching for their first win. Scott Kemp's status for the game was unclear due to a potential Covid scare, the quarterback and team captain was cleared for play right before kickoff. There was some confusion in this game due to the game clock running a little slow and we also saw a player walk out during the team for the Sentinels. The game was extremely close at one point being 31 to 25 but Arin Natzke was dealing with an injured groin and the Sentinels never looked strong in the second half the Bandits would go on to out score the Sentinels 34 to 8 the rest of the way. The Bandits looked comfortable on Sunday after suffering a tough loss Week 1 against the Elite. The Bandits would also score a whopping 3 touchdowns on kickoff returns. Brett Meeks looked a lot more assured in this game with his accuracy being on point. The Sentinels now go into Week 3 being the lone team without a win, Scott Kemp must now look for more help if he wants to be victorious in this league.

My friend Bobby Lee Shae called the second game of our Sunday slate a true David vs Goliath matchup, the Admirals came into Sunday with their heads high after beating the Sentinels in the opening week while the Mustangs were just looking to be themselves and go back to their dominant ways. In the early parts of this game it was looking like another potential upset for the Admirals they actually led the game 13 to 12 and they were playing with a great deal of confidence. The Admirals would not score again the rest of the way, the Mustangs would snag 4 interceptions in the game with three of those being from Hayden Gray. The big plays were also back for the Mustangs as Jackson Davis connected on multiple deep balls, the Mustangs looked strong in the final three quarters but team captain D.J. Hayes was still not satisfied with a 54 to 13 win saying it "wasn't good enough"!

The third and final game featured a matchup between the two top teams in the Week 1 Power Rankings the Vipers versus the Elite, this game was expected to go down to the wire but the Elite had another idea in mind and that was to dominate. The first score was on a safety and then a pass to go up 10 to 0. Adrian Morris would then connect with his go to target Ramar Easter to cut their deficit to just 4. But the Elite would then go back up by double digits, Morris again would find Easter on deep ball for a touchdown, Morris and Easter I believe have the potential to be the leagues very best Quarterback and Wide Receiver combination. The Elite however just kept scoring and their defense began to clamp up on the Vipers holding them to just 26 points in the game. The Elite are finally living up to their name and they can beat you in numerous ways they will undoubtably be the top team in the Week 2 Power Rankings.

Week 3 will feature three fantastic matchups the Mustangs vs Bandits, Sentinels vs Vipers, and the Admirals vs Elite, the first game is no doubt the game of the week as it is a rematch of the CAFFL Championship last fall.
