Team Captain Interviews

The newest member of our CAFFL media team Sage Johannesburg had the chance to talk to 3 of the CAFFL team captains. The Mustang's D.J. Hayes, the Elite's Easton Thomas and the Bandit's Tyler Bates all answered a couple of questions regarding their teams.

Elite

How were you guys able to compete so well the first time around with the Mustangs, and do you think you can duplicate that this Sunday?

I think our ability to compete with you the first game came from our addition of Nash Teague at Qb. Most of the receivers I’ve recruited, including his brother (Brack Teague), have a well established pass-catch connection from a whole life of playing together. If that connection gets going again, and our D steps up to the challenge of holding the Mustangs below the 40 point mark, I would give our guys a good chance to win. In the end, Defense is going to win this game. There are a lot of very talented players on both of these squads to contain.

Which players need to step up for you guys the rest of the season?

I would say Timmy Fraley is our key to the last portion of the season. He’s a versatile athlete with a ton of potential at any position. His presence adds a lot to the overall big play ability of our offense. On defense, he’s right at home jumping routes and beating receivers to the ball. We’ll really enjoy success if him and everyone else continue to develop mental awareness, team cohesion, and the grit to play from behind when adversity strikes.

What has given this team the most trouble this year?

Getting enough players to even have a team.

Having loyal players.

Getting even a single practice.

What positions need to be figured out over the next few weeks?

QB

Mustangs

Why are you so far ahead of the other three teams at this point of the season?

The reason I think our team is good for the simple fact we talk on the field and let each other know what we are seeing on both sides of the ball whether it's a big gap in the middle of the field or we have a wide out coming on a slant. We try to play the game smart Mr. Johannesburg and with our guys not being selfish players and carrying about winning it helps us not fight each other on blown up plays either side of the ball.

What is it going to take to continue this dominance for the rest of the season?

I think for us to continue to be the top team we just gotta tighten up our defense and improve some more on the offense side of the ball. I think we will stay undefeated and could possibly compete for a championship.

We would like to again thank the three team captains who participated in these interviews. Unfortunately we were unable to get in contact with the Vipers organization but we hope to include them in the future.
