Mustangs set the bar!
Week 3 delivered a highly anticipated showdown reminiscent of last season's CAFFL championship game, featuring the Arkansas Mustangs squaring off against the Spa City Kings. Both teams entered the contest with perfect 2-0 records, but as is the nature of competition, one would inevitably leave with a loss. The Kings struck first, with veteran tight end Russell Reynolds finding the end zone, but the Mustangs quickly responded as quarterback Davis connected with tight end Bearden for a six-yard touchdown. The game unfolded in a thrilling back-and-forth manner, with the Mustangs forcing a turnover on downs that set the stage for their explosive offense. Davis showcased his prowess by hitting running back DJ Hayes for a stunning 34-yard receiving touchdown, further asserting the Mustangs' dominance. Not to be outdone, Davis continued to pile on the points, linking up with his reliable wide receiver Nichols for a 32-yard touchdown. While both teams displayed remarkable skill and determination, it was evident that the Mustangs had a greater hunger for victory, ultimately sealing the game with a decisive 48-28 win, elevating their record to 3-0 while the Kings fell to 2-1.
In the second game of the day, the winless 0-2 Vipers hosted the equally struggling 0-2 Aces, with both teams desperate to secure their first victory of the season and reignite their championship aspirations. The Aces came out strong, with quarterback Christian Doucet connecting with wide receiver Smith for a 15-yard touchdown on their opening drive. However, Vipers quarterback Morris quickly retaliated, using his legs to scramble for a 10-yard touchdown. The Vipers' defense then stepped up, allowing Morris to return to the field swiftly, where he found wide receiver Jesse Norwood for an 18-yard touchdown, shifting the momentum decisively in favor of the Vipers. The Aces struggled to find their rhythm offensively, with Doucet having a challenging outing, completing only six of his seventeen passes. Meanwhile, the Vipers were determined to prove they still had the capability to be a formidable force in the CAFFL. Their efforts paid off as they secured their first win of the season, improving to 1-2, while the Aces fell to a disappointing 0-3.
